Brooklyn Decker Ditches Modeling for Acting? Lands NEW Series Titled ‘Friends With Better Lives,’ Reveals: ‘I Wasn’t Succesful as a Model!’

Brooklyn Decker Ditches Modeling for Acting? Lands NEW Series Titled ‘Friends With Better Lives,’ Reveals: ‘I Wasn’t Succesful as a Model!’ [SEE PICS]
The gorgeous wife of tennis star Andy Roddick has reportedly landed a starring role on CBS’s upcoming series, “Friends With Better Lives.”

According to the New York Daily News, Decker got into acting after finding out ‘she wasn’t that successful as a model.’

“I set out to go into acting,” said Decker, who turns 27 on April 12. “And this show is great, because I love comedy. [SEE PICS]

“I don’t know if I was considered ‘funny’ when I was growing up. … People who have known me for a while would always be really surprised when I would, like, tell a dirty joke.”

The new show, premiering March 31st, centers around six twenty-something-year-old friends who appear to spend all their time together.

Decker admitted that because the theme is similar to the hit series “Friends,” many will compare the two shows.

“We’re a different show with different personalities,” she said. “But I’m sure there will be comparisons. Hey, ‘Friends’ is one of my favorite shows.”

The synopsis for the series plays out as follows:

“Bobby (Kevin Connolly) and Andi (Majandra Delfino) are married with one little kid and another on the way. Their problem, they say, is they have no love life. Will (James Van Der Beek) is just divorced and fooling nobody when he says he loves being free. Kate (Zoe Lister-Jones) wants the perfect man and keeps getting irregulars.”

Decker plays Jules, a woman who has just fallen into a relationship with Lowell (Rick Donald). The two are reportedy head over heels in love.

“They’re like two lost little puppies,” Decker said.

Although she maintains a more orderly life than that that of Jules, she admits the two have a few similarities.

“We’re both huge cheerleaders for our friends,” she said. “We love our friends. I don’t think it’s at all strange that these people would spend all their time with each other.”

“When we aren’t in L.A., we live in Texas, and I can totally relate to that open-door policy. We always have people staying for the weekend.”

‘Sexiest Woman’ Brooklyn Decker transitions into TV comedy

‘Sexiest Woman’ Brooklyn Decker transitions into TV comedy

Rather than regarding her measurements as a blessing or a curse, Brooklyn Decker has a measured attitude.

Decker, who is one of the stars of the new sitcom Friends With Better Lives, is a former model who in 2010 was the readers’ choice as Esquire magazine’s “sexiest woman alive.” But Decker neither takes credit for her good looks nor shies away from them.

“You guys, it’s ridiculous,” said Decker, referring specifically to the Esquire honour. “It’s like, ‘Thanks Photoshop,’ I mean, it’s so nice, especially when it’s that time of the month, and you feel disgusting, and you have a big breakout on your face and you’re super bloated, it’s nice to be able to think, ‘Okay, there was once a day of looking beautiful.’ But, I mean, it’s nothing you earn.

“I’m certainly not going to bite the hand that fed me. I know people take meetings with me because I had a name for (modeling). But I’m not going to take credit for my looks, my parents gave them to me, and then makeup and hair and Photoshop makes it better.

“I’m also not going to say, ‘Oh, I’m pretty, therefore I can’t get great roles.’ That’s bull—-. I’ve had an amazing career because doors opened for me (through modeling). Now it’s up to me to prove that I can stay here.”

For Decker, “here” means acting in general, but also Friends With Better Lives in particular. The sitcom debuts Monday, March 31 on CBS and City, right after the series finale of How I Met Your Mother.

Friends With Better Lives is kind of a How I Met Your Mother “replacement wannabe,” although the humour is more Two and a Half Men or 2 Broke Girls-ish. Friends With Better Lives is about adult friends at different stages of their personal and professional existences, and the ensemble cast includes Decker, Kevin Connolly, James Van Der Beek, Majandra Delfino, Zoe Lister-Jones and Rick Donald.

The 26-year-old Decker, who is married to retired tennis pro Andy Roddick, re-confirmed she has given up modeling. She determined two years ago that if she were serious about transitioning into acting, she didn’t want modelling in her mind as a fallback.

“I just wanted to do good work, and I love comedy, it’s a medium I’m comfortable in,” Decker said. “I wanted to work with really good people. I got lucky it’s in this format. Up until this point, I’ve made my decisions based on who I’m working with, and I’ve been really happy with that.”

Nonetheless, Decker admitted she had to learn some things about doing a sitcom in front of a live audience.

“Letting jokes breathe, I’m terrible at that,” Decker said. “As you can tell, I talk, talk, talk, and I’m super fast. So letting jokes breathe and letting the audience laugh was something to get used to.”

The world got used to gawking at Brooklyn Decker. Now she’s showing off her funny side, too.

We’ll see how she measures up.
