THE Gold Coast beach had it all yesterday – the glamour, the big names and even racehorses.
They were all there to promote the Magic Millions carnival, which hits pace today when the annual yearling sales begin at the Gold Coast Racecourse.
American supermodel Brooklyn Decker lit up the beach during yesterday’s barrier draw for Saturday’s feature races. The actress and wife of tennis star Andy Roddick is this year’s Magic Millions ambassador.
Decker said she was excited to be part of a raceday that has become ingrained in Queensland’s summer events calendar.
The State Government gave the carnival a boost last night when it finalised a $35 million upgrade for the Gold Coast track and facilities. The upgrade, which will not include an equity sharing deal for Racing Queensland, begins in August.

Owners are expected to splurge at least $60 million on yearlings over the next week.
Magic Millions spokesman Greg Irvin said it was too early to tell what the sales would yield. But he said some of the country’s major racing players, including Gai Waterhouse and Nathan Tinkler, would be at the sales.
